Meet The Advisors: Q&A with Heather Samu

In October 2015, The First Home Buyers Club formed a partnership with Mortgage Link as a preferred advisors to its members. This allowed us to work closely with first home buyer specialists who are experienced in the unique need that our members have.

So to let you all know more about people involved we thought a ‘Meet The Advisors’ Q&A would be a good introduction to the team that helps us to help you.

First up is Heather Samu of Mortgage Link East Auckland.

Heather Samu Mortgage Advisor

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

My career has spanned more than 30 years in the Finance industry, from Banking to now being a Mortgage Adviser, of which I am truly grateful.

Banking has provided me with the skills tools and experience to ensure that all I come in contact with are in very capable hands and will be treated with the utmost respect and integrity that they deserve.

I love to help Clients obtain a YES and then to follow up with the best offer available on the Day.

2. What makes you want to work with FHBC and its members?

I so enjoy working alongside the FHBC as I know there are so many people out there who don’t know what they don’t know.

By joining forces with FHBC I get to help First home buyers right from the beginning. Being a Mum of three with 5 grandchildren , I realise there is nothing more rewarding than seeing young and old buy their very first home.

This is what makes me want to get up in the morning, it (and) makes me feel honoured to be part of the Group and to be able to assist.

3. What do you like to do with your free time?

For the record I have been married twice, lucky me and am proud to say, between us we have nine adult children.  So whenever I get a chance to catch up with them I do.

I love to knit, so look out. You may find I turn up on your door step with a gift I have lovingly knitted for the new addition to your family. Nothing gives me more pleasure than presenting this to my clients.

To be honest I also enjoy a tasty glass of Chardonnay and spending time with family and friends.

4. What is your view on the current state of the housing market for first home buyers?

I feel first home buyers are getting overwhelmed by the price of houses in the Auckland market but I do stress you can still find that ladder to jump on. It may just be further away than what you thought. Everyone has to start somewhere.

5. What tips do you have for first home buyers?

My one tip would be don’t give up, get yourself into KiwiSaver, and if you are able, put in the maximum amount you can afford to from the start.

Some things take time and keep your bank accounts in order please, makes it so much easier for me to help you get a YES from the Bank.

If you need help with getting on the path to home ownership, get in touch via the contact form below and we will connect you with Heather to get you started.
